چکیده

Results of laser-driven shock wave experiments for equation-of-state (EOS) studies of gold metal are presented. A Nd : YAG laser chain (2 Joule, 1.06 μm wavelength, 200 ps pulse FWHM) is used for generating shocks in the planar Al foils and Al + Au layered targets. EOS of gold in the pressure range of 9– 13 Mbar is obtained using impedance-matching technique. Numerical simulations performed using onedimensional radiation hydrodynamic code supports the experimental results. Experimental data show remarkable agreement with results from studies using the existing standard EOS models and with other experimental data obtained independently using laser-driven shock experiments.

Laser Induced Shock Pressure Multiplication in Multi Layer Thin Foil Targets

The impedance mismatch technique has been used for shock pressure amplification in two and three layer thin planar foil targets. Numerical simulation results using one dimensional radiation hydrocode MULTI in two layer targets consisting of Al-Au & Al-Cu and three layer target consisting of Plastic Al -Au & Foam-Al-Au respectively are presented. These results show a pressure enhancement up to 2...

Spectral Broadening of Ions Accelerated by a Radiation Pressure Driven Shock

Laser driven ion acceleration has been the focus of considerable research efforts since multi-MeV energies were first demonstrated. Most experiments use solid state laser pulses focused onto thin foil targets. However, recent progress in CO2 laser technology allows for the creation of intense pulses at lambda ∼10 μm. The longer wavelength permits the use of low density targets. In these conditi...

Analysis of elastic stress wave propagation through a complex composite structure

A one-dimensional impact problem is employed for a layered system that comprises heterogeneous materials with different geometrical configurations. The system mimics transmitter for Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Systems (MILES). The analytical model tracks the stress wave propagation through this layered structure as a result of the mechanical shock from blank rounds as they fired. The r...

Shock Compression of Plane Targets by Laser Ablation

The properties of laser ablation driven shockwaves in plane transparent targets are investigated using high speed photography. The pressure, density and temperature of the compressed state behind the shockwave is determined with the shockwave Hugoniots of the target materials. The shockwave propagation is explained by a modified blastwave model and the energy transfer to the shock compressed re...

Effect of Micropolarity on the Propagation of Shear Waves in a Piezoelectric Layered Structure

This paper studies the propagation of shear waves in a composite structure consisting of a piezoelectric layer perfectly bonded over a micropolar elastic half space. The general dispersion equations for the existence of shear waves are obtained analytically in the closed form. Some particular cases have been discussed and in one special case the relation obtained is in agreement with existing r...
